“David and I met on a freezing winter’s evening in a field on my father’s farm in Fife where he was feeding his new horse. I was 10 and he was 13,” recalls Alison. Although they were together for a while in the ’60s, life took them in different directions until a chance encounter brought them together again in 2011. So, almost 50 years to the day after they first met, they tied the knot on a sunny afternoon at Balbirnie House!
Alison pulled off the impressive feat of organising the entire wedding in two months – all while struck down with pneumonia! The easy part was choosing the dress at Pan Pan Bridal: “It was all done and dusted in ten minutes and I felt a million dollars in the dress”, says Alison.
The team at Balbirnie helped to piece together lots of the finer details. “Looking back, choosing a venue you can trust is all-important as there can be no dress rehearsal for your special day,” notes Alison. “Kirsty [wedding coordinator] at Balbirnie was always at the end of the phone or email to advise,” she adds.
The hotel’s ballroom was the perfect place for the reception, when there was plenty of dancing on the go. “I managed to ‘smuggle’ six-piece ceilidh band Corra into the reception without David knowing,” laughs Alison.
