After getting engaged in St Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh, the couple had their heart set on marrying there. “It was our number-one choice and we were delighted when we realised we could hold our ceremony there,” says Laurie. They then viewed a number of possible reception venues, but none fitted the bill – until they visited House for an Art Lover, in Glasgow.
The Mackintosh-loving couple instantly fell in love with it. “The Music Room is so unbelievably stunning, it’s hard not to be wowed when you enter it,” says Laurie.
Laurie urges brides-to-be to think outside the box. “Don’t be cajoled by family, friends, fashion or tradition. And don’t be afraid to be a bit different. We had a traditional wedding but I chose a coloured dress and Alasdair and I did a joint speech (instead of father-of-the-bride speech, best man speech, groom speech).”
Self-confessed bookworms the happy couple unleashed their bibliophile tendencies on the finer details of the wedding, including tables named after authors, and wedding stationery and confetti based on vintage Penguin books.
